About Moira Purver

The focus of Moira Purver`s work is figurative sculpture. She loves the challenge of capturing some of the vitality and expression of the living form. Her sculpture, worked largely from life, has a vitality and warmth with a mixture of restful and dynamic poses. The subjects for her work include the simple female and male form, dancers and children at play as well as some animal sculpture. Moira works her original sculptures in either wax or clay, from which they are then cast into bronze or bronze resin. She is an active member of the Surrey Sculpture Society and has exhibited with them and also at the Mall Galleries in London and galleries in London, Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

Moira was elected as an Associate Member of the Society of Women Artists in May 2011 and as a full member (SWA) in 2014

Biography / CV of Moira Purver

Now living in Dorset, Moira Purver was born in Leith, Edinburgh. She first encountered, and fell in love with, modelling in clay at the age of 17 at school. One of the pieces she completed then, a 27" high rock climber, has travelled with her throughout her adult life, even though she was unable to return to sculpture until much later.

With no formal art education since school, Moira completed a course in sculpture and mould making with Paul Bainbridge (ARBS) at University of Hertfordshire 2005-6 and has since done several short courses in both life modelling and portrait sculpture with different sculptors

Customer comment on 'Egret on Alert (Standing Water Bird Wader sculpture)' by Kenneth Potts
Ken, Peter

Thank you both, and especially of course Ken, for your trouble over the
egret sculpture. I am very glad to say that it is now installed in our
garden, and we are delighted with it. Lucy has decided it should be called
Elgar, in memory of the work you are currently doing, Ken.

I attach a couple of pictures showing Elgar the Egret on his stand and in
his setting above the rockery by the pond.
